Lawnton Aquatic Centre needed to heat their 50m outdoor pool so that it could be in use 24/7 all year round! As the pool is used for a large variety of uses such as swimming lessons, squads, birthday parties and general fitness; it was beneficial that the pool would be heated to a stable temperature all the time so that the visitors could enjoy it. EvoHeat detemined that three CS200-GEN2 heat pumps would adequately heat the pool with ease and the highest performance.
The large 50m outdoor pool is now heated to a set temperature of 27 degrees celcius, satisfying the needs of both the client and the swimmers who use the pool no matter the temperature!
Client: Logan City Council / North Logan Aquatic and Fitness Centre
Location: Logan, QLD
Heat Pump Installed: EvoHeat CS200-GEN 2 Heat Pump
Application: Pool Heating
Logan City Council needed to upgrade their existing heat pump which was heating their 25-metre indoor learn to swim pool at North Logan Aquatic and Fitness Centre pool. EvoHeat were able to save the Logan City Council an estimated $42,000 over 15 years compare to one of our major competitors.
Our EvoHeat CS200-GEN 2 heat pump smashed our competition with a C.O.P. of 5.79@ 24°C air. It also comes with the added ability to direct connect which allows the heat pump to connect directly to the filtration system which negates the need for a dedicated water pump saving the Logan City council thousands every year.
EvoHeat were able to save the Logan City Council an estimated $42,000 over 15 years compared to one of our major competitors.
Client: Lakes Entrance Aquadome
Location: Lakes Entrance, VIC
Company Name: East Gippsland Shire Council
Heat Pumps: 2 x EvoHeat CS135 & 2 x RHS8000 Heat Recovery Heat Pump Space Heaters
Project Type: Commercial Aquatic Project
Application: Pool and Space Heating
The Lakes Entrance Aquadome was looking at replacing its ageing gas boilers with more efficient options. As the entire facility was operating on LPG heating costs were extremely high. Both the pool heating and space heating and ventilation systems were in need of replacement.
Evo pool heating solution:
Evo supplied two EvoHeat CS135 commercial pool heat pumps to heat each of the centre’s two pools.
The installation was completed with the pool in full operation at all times with NO downtime period experienced for patrons during the entire installation process.
Evo space heating solution:
Two RHS8000 Heat Recovery Heat Pump Space heaters and a high-level control system with full web based SCADA and energy monitoring package were installed to meet their space heating needs.
This system was designed to operate in full automatic mode and can be controlled from any location with internet access.
The EvoHeat upgrade provided a massive cost reduction for Lakes Entrance Aquadome with a reduction in their running costs of over 80%.
Not only were we able to smash their running costs, their ROI for the pool heating application was estimated at 1.56 years and the ROI for the air heating was estimated at 2.36 years.
Client: Fremantle Aquatic & Leisure Centre
Location: Fremantle, Perth WA
Head Contractor: Evo Energy & Evo Industries Australia Pty Ltd
Application: Cogeneration and Geothermal Heating
The City of Fremantle needed a low-carbon option when upgrading their pool heating system at the Fremantle Leisure Centre. Evo Energy presented a cogeneration and geothermal heating solution that was a first of its kind in Australia and won the tender to supply and install both the water-water heat pump for the geothermal heating system and the cogeneration system.
The Fremantle Aquatic Centre CHP and Geothermal heating project was a unique project that combines a Cogeneration unit with a ground source heat pump utilizing a Shallow Aquifer Geothermal Bore System. This is the first project of its kind in Australia that combines these two technologies.
Engineering firm EMC designed the combination system to replace the existing gas boiler system providing heat to the 50m and 25m outdoor swimming pools.
As part of a multi-million-dollar renovation, a purpose-built plant room was constructed at the southern end of the property to house the cogeneration plant, geothermal heating & all associated pumps and the plate heat exchangers.
The Cogeneration plant provides electrical output in conjunction with a 30kW PV array. This is used to offset the facility’s electrical consumption and thermal energy to the centre’s two pools. The CHP system is scheduled to operate during peak periods, 5 days per week.
The MiracleGen CHP system is a fully integrated unit composed of a gasified Cummins engine, Leroy Somer alternator, ComAp controller and all required pumps and heat exchangers.
The Ground Source Heat Pump utilises warm water (approx. 26°C), from the Leederville Aquifer, Fremantle to heat both of the pools. The total efficiency of the heat pump during operation is over 600%.
The production bore is located approx 30m away from the plant room and the injection bore is located approx 350m to the west of the production bore.
Significant monitoring and warning systems are installed as part of the project’s groundwater license. These controls are fully integrated into the ComAp BMS system.
The MiracleGen CHP unit is supplied with a ComAp Intelligen NT controller. This controller system was expanded to provide a full BMS system that operates the entire pool plant room including all of the heating and pumping equipment. The ComAp Intelligen NT controller has full control, monitoring and reporting capabilities system-wide. It’s also able to calculate GHG and cost savings via integrated gas and water flow meters
As part of the upgrade, the existing Submain and MSSB were removed and replaced with new purpose-built components.
The heating system has reduced Fremantle Leisure Centre carbon dioxide emissions by 250 tonnes each year which is a reduction of around 25% of their annual emissions.
While the Fremantle Leisure Centre will still require the same amount of energy to heat the centre’s pools, it now comes from a cheaper source, significantly reducing their annual running costs.
